"One who wakes a Djinn shall be given three wishes.
Upon the granting of the third the unholy legions
of the Djinn shall be freed upon the earth.
Fear one thing only in all that is...
Fear the Djinn."

Following that line we are showed Persia in 1127 a.d, where all hell is breaking loose in a sultans court. People are running around in a panic while others are being mutilated and mutated. As this is going on we can hear the Djinn telling the sultan to make his third wish, Just then the court sorcerer breaks into the thrown room and stops the sultan from making his third wish. He tells him that if is does that all the people of the world will suffer the same fate as his own people. After that he holds out in the palm of his hand a specially made stone that he traps the Djinn in. The stone is then sealed inside a statue.

Hundreds of years pass and the statue is brought to America in our present time. Where there is an accident with it on a boat yard, which causes the statue to get smashed. When the crew is cleaning up the pieces of the broken statue one of the men find the stone inside and steals it. After he steals it he then pawns it to a guy who take it to be appraised by an auctioning firm.

Where it is examined by Alex (Lauren). After thinking that there might be something wrong with the stone. She takes it to her friend Josh to have him do a laser scan on it. While Josh is doing the laser scan the machine starts to malfunction and the Djinn is awakened.

But in the meantime he can grant other people meaningless wishes and takes their souls to charge the stone he was trapped in. He needs this stone charged with souls. After he has collected so many souls he needs the person who awakened him to make the three wishes to bring the legion of the Djinn. But its powers have one limitation. It can only do something if the person asks it to. The thing that bothered me was that every time the Djinn kills someone Alex watches it happen via a psych link.

I really enjoyed watching this movie. The special effects are really good, the acting is good, and the plot keeps moving. What also makes me like this is that the plot was really thought out in this movie. So many times in horror have people just been in a hurry to make a movie that they don't care about the plot or how it flows. That was really avoided in this movie. It tried as any movie could to tie up loose ends, which really pleased me.
